Halal Supplements UK — Vitamins Formulated for a Halal Lifestyle
Finding supplements that are genuinely compatible with a halal diet shouldn’t be difficult — but for many Muslim consumers in the UK, it is. Most mainstream supplement brands don’t disclose whether their capsules contain pork-derived gelatine, whether alcohol is used as a processing solvent, or whether animal-derived ingredients like lanolin, carmine, or shellac are present in their formulations.
At Nutrivity, we’ve built our entire product range to be compatible with a halal lifestyle from the ground up. Every supplement we manufacture is formulated without haram-derived ingredients, and where gelatine is used, it is sourced exclusively from halal-permissible sources.
We’re a UK-based supplement brand, manufacturing in GMP-certified facilities in Britain, and we’ve served over 300,000 customers since we started trading. Our halal-suitable range isn’t an afterthought or a small subsection of our catalogue — it’s the foundation of how we formulate everything.

Why Halal Matters in Supplements
Many people assume that vitamins and supplements are automatically halal because they’re “just vitamins.” This isn’t the case. Common ingredients in mainstream supplements that are not halal-suitable include:
Gelatine capsules — The majority of soft gel and hard capsules sold in the UK use gelatine derived from pork. This is the single biggest issue for Muslim consumers shopping for supplements. Unless a brand explicitly states their gelatine source, it is almost certainly pork-derived because it’s the cheapest option.
Vitamin D3 from lanolin — Most Vitamin D3 supplements are derived from lanolin, a wax secreted from sheep’s wool. While many scholars consider lanolin-derived D3 permissible, there is ongoing debate. At Nutrivity, our Vitamin D3 is plant-based, sourced from lichen, removing this concern entirely.
Alcohol-based extracts — Some herbal supplements use ethanol as an extraction solvent. Even trace amounts of alcohol in the final product can be a concern for observant Muslims. Our herbal formulations do not use alcohol-based extraction processes.
Carmine (E120) — A red colouring derived from crushed cochineal insects, commonly used in coated tablets and gummy vitamins. None of our products contain carmine or insect-derived colourings.
Shellac coatings — A resin secreted by lac bugs, sometimes used to coat tablets for easier swallowing. We do not use shellac in any of our products.
Magnesium stearate from animal sources — This common flow agent in tablet manufacturing can be derived from either plant or animal sources. Ours is always of vegetable origin.
How We Ensure Our Supplements Are Halal-Suitable
Our approach to halal-suitable manufacturing covers every stage of the product, from ingredient sourcing through to the finished supplement:
Ingredient sourcing — We audit every raw material in our supply chain. Where an ingredient could potentially come from either halal or non-halal sources (such as gelatine, magnesium stearate, or glycerine), we verify and specify halal-permissible sources. Our vegetable capsules use hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), which is entirely plant-derived.
No alcohol in processing — Our manufacturing processes do not use ethanol or other alcohols as extraction solvents. This applies across our entire herbal supplement range, including our Devils Claw, Agnus Castus, Black Cohosh, and Damiana Extract formulations.
GMP-certified UK manufacturing — All Nutrivity products are manufactured in the United Kingdom in facilities that hold GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification. This means strict controls on cross-contamination, ingredient traceability, and production hygiene — the same standards that support halal compliance.
Full ingredient transparency — Every product page on our website lists complete ingredients. We don’t hide behind vague terms like “other ingredients” or “proprietary blend.” You can see exactly what’s in every capsule and tablet.
Gelatine sourcing — Where we use gelatine (in some soft gel products such as our Cod Liver Oil & Glucosamine, Castor Oil, Virgin Olive Oil, and Blackcurrant Seed Oil capsules), it is sourced from halal-permissible sources — never pork. Our hard capsule products use plant-based HPMC capsules, which are suitable for both halal and vegan diets.

Halal vs Vegan — What’s the Difference?
Many of our customers ask whether “vegan” automatically means “halal.” The short answer is: mostly, but not always.
Vegan supplements contain no animal products whatsoever, which means they avoid gelatine, lanolin, carmine, and shellac by default. In most cases, a vegan supplement will also be halal-suitable.
However, there can be edge cases — for example, a vegan supplement could theoretically use alcohol-based extraction, which would be vegan but potentially not halal. At Nutrivity, our vegan products are also halal-suitable because we avoid alcohol-based processing across our range.
If a product in our range is labelled as Vegan, it is also halal-suitable. Our soft gel products that contain halal-sourced gelatine are halal-suitable but not vegan.
For customers who want products that are both halal and vegan, browse our Vegan Supplements range — every product there meets both criteria.

common questions about Halal Supplements
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all Nutrivity supplements halal?
Yes. Every product in our range is formulated to be compatible with a halal diet. We do not use any pork-derived ingredients, alcohol-based extracts, or haram-derived additives in any of our supplements. Where gelatine is required, we source it from halal-permissible sources.
Do your capsules contain pork gelatine?
No. Our hard capsule products use HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), which is 100% plant-derived. Our soft gel products use gelatin sourced from halal-permissible sources — never pork.
Is your Vitamin D3 derived from animal sources?
Our Vitamin D3 + K2 formula uses plant-based D3 sourced from lichen, not lanolin (sheep’s wool). The K2 (MK-7) is derived from natto, a fermented soybean product. The entire formulation is both vegan and halal-suitable.
Do any of your supplements contain alcohol?
No. We do not use ethanol or any other alcohol as an extraction solvent in our herbal supplements. This applies to all products in our range, including herbal extracts like Devils Claw, Agnus Castus, and Black Cohosh.
Are your supplements certified halal by a recognised body?
Our products are formulated to be fully compatible with a halal diet using halal-suitable ingredients and manufacturing processes. We are transparent about every ingredient in our products so customers can make informed decisions. We are currently exploring formal third-party halal certification to provide additional assurance.
What does GMP certification mean for halal consumers?
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification means our UK manufacturing facilities meet strict standards for hygiene, ingredient traceability, and cross-contamination prevention. These controls directly support halal compliance by ensuring ingredients are handled properly and products contain only what is listed on the label.
How can I verify the ingredients in your supplements?
Every product page on nutrivity.co.uk lists complete ingredients. We don’t use vague terms like “proprietary blends.” If you have specific questions about any ingredient source, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll provide full details.
Which products use gelatine and which use plant-based capsules?
Soft gel products (Castor Oil, Virgin Olive Oil, Cod Liver Oil & Glucosamine, Blackcurrant Seed Oil) use halal-sourced gelatin. All other capsule and tablet products use plant-based HPMC capsules or compressed tablet forms.
Are vegan supplements also halal?
At Nutrivity, yes. Our vegan products are also halal-suitable because we avoid alcohol-based processing across our entire range. However, vegan does not always mean halal elsewhere, as some vegan products may use alcohol-based extraction.
Do you offer free delivery on halal supplements?
Yes. All UK orders receive free tracked delivery, typically arriving within 2-3 working days. This applies to every product in our range.
